Went to the Oculus Anubis Temple in Damascus, I thought all the rumors of the white SUV were fake, but I learned the hard way that they are true. It was fucking sketchy!! They pull up right next to you with their window rolled down a little so all you can see is their eyes watching you.

Played with spray paint and made some Space Paintings! then cuddled with Murf!

Almost getting caught…

This was the 3^rd day in a row that I was inside this abandoned mill. Day one was awesome. I had a group of 6, all urbexers, and we explored the mill for a few hours and enjoyed sharing common interest with each other. Day two was just as splendid; I brought one of my best friends who is an amazing photographer. That day we walked around and got some shots of the building. After about two hours inside there, and some satisfied shots, we decided to call it a day. The third day I thought would be the same. Just like the other days, it was another 30 degree spring-like day with the sun melting what winter had left behind. This time, I was making my way over with a well-known street graffiti artist. We’ll call him Bob. Bob told me he had been inside this mill recently as well, so just like the previous two days we simply squeeze in-between a door and made our way up. After scoping out some walls for maybe 30 minutes, we agree on a wall on the second floor that had nothing but crappy tags and perfect sunlight. This is where he was going to make his mark. Bob got out his cans and I got out my camera to do a time-lapse. Things were working nicely. The paint cans weren’t clogging up, the spray was sticking to the wall and the sun just felt amazing. Bob quickly finished his outline and proceeded on to the fill. While the camera was doing the work for me, I decided to look out the window to see what was going on around the neighborhood. Immediately my eyes focused in one spot. What did I see? A cop car.

               On first sight, it didn’t really bother me. I’ve seen cop cars drive past multiple times while I have been in here. So I wasn’t too concerned. I told Bob to hold off for a second and let me check up on what is going on. Well just as quickly as they came, they left. It looked like they were making their way past the mill to some other destination. The slight feeling of nerves that we’re starting to build diminished. Bob picked up his can again and started painting. Not even a minute later, they drove past again, this time much slower. I could feel it, and I knew it was too good to be true. They made their way past the train tracks up to the mill, making their own path through the foot of snow lying on the ground. We couldn’t see them anymore. The windows were too tall and the cops were too close. We could still hear the tires crunching the snow though. Suddenly, the sound stops, and we hear a door open. I could see the fear in Bob’s eyes, and I could feel it inside my chest.

               As the footsteps got louder, and the adrenaline rose, we heard a loud screech. Then only a few seconds later, we heard another screech. Bob and I looked at each other with a smirk. We both knew what happen. The cop car got stuck in the snow. The first voice was of a guy with a southern accent. I swear the first 10 words that came out of his mouth were swear words.. This put some of the stress to ease for a moment while we both laughed and cracked jokes about how stupid the cops were. We still couldn’t see what was going on but we could picture the struggle. Before we know it 20 minutes passed and we didn’t have a plan. The only thing we could do is keep our backs against the wall. Ironically, that’s how we felt too. Our backs were against the wall and there was no escape. The only exit out of the place was the way we came in and the cop car was stuck right in front of the door. We were trapped. By this time, the sun is falling behind the city of Minneapolis and will be gone shortly. We were getting cold and our minds were starting to mess with us. The cop cursing eventually became a background noise. All I could hear was the thoughts my head. I was scared thinking the worse would happen, and it almost did.

               Finally after around 40 minutes the cops got out. To Bob and I, it was a sign of relief. After all that hard work they put in to get the car out we thought they would leave the premises. Well our hopes were far from reality. They pull up onto the far side of the train tracks and put the car in park and got out. My mind still searched for some kind of hope. The two cops looked fairly out of shape, so they had to be tired right? Maybe they are just going to walk around the building once and leave. Their plans didn’t match mine, and immediately they started screaming. “We know you guys are in there! We are not fucking stupid. Come out, else we are going to tow your cars”. Both Bob and my adrenaline sky rocketed. Just because our adrenaline was high, doesn’t mean would surrender. Our cars were parked down the street, right next to a baseball park. People always parked there during sporting events. We knew better than to think they would tow our cars. Did they actually know we were in there? After the cops realized their scare tactics weren’t going anywhere, they started throwing rocks inside random windows of the building. I’ll admit, that scared me a lot, but Bob and I weren’t going to budge. We kept are feet planted against the wall, not making a sound. It seemed to only be getting worse. Their sounds started echoing through the building. We had no idea what was going on. The only way inside meant walking on a surface that was half freezing water and half cracked clear ice. They wouldn’t come inside would they? We slowly moved into a corner with all our stuff, hoping that if they came in the open room they wouldn’t see us in the some-what hidden corner. This hope became realistic this time. Not long after hearing the echoes, we heard doors slamming. Bob and I took a peak and see that we finally get to breathe a little

               We weren’t out of situation yet. Now, the cop car made their way over to our cars. They put their sirens on and started walking around our cars, shining their mag lights into them to see what was inside our cars. Bob and I were lucky. For the first time, I put all my photo stuff inside my trunk instead of my back seat and Bob had all his equipment with him. They had no evidence we were even inside. We knew it was our time to make a move while they were a distances away. We pack our stuff quickly, leaving his unfinished piece behind and made our way up. There was only one way we could be safe if they were to come back and come inside. We had to climb the ladder inside the building to the top level. The rusty ladder was the only way to the top, and we figured if we were up there, nobody would get us. This ladder was a challenge. 15 stories straight up with no place to rest. It was hard on our bodies. By now the sun was almost completely down and the chilly Minnesota weather left us cold. We struggled, but made our way up there after 10 long minutes.

               We were a little bit calmer once we got to the top floor. We knew no cop would go up that sketchy difficult climb just to get us. We watched from up high as the cops were farther down the block with their lights off. They really thought we would come out right after they left our cars. We knew better. We sat down and drank a few beers we packed earlier and conversed about past adventures and abandoned sites we’ve seen. The climb warmed us up so we weren’t cold and Bob ended up doing two pieces up top. Both turned out beautifully. After spending two hours up there we decided it was safe to make our way out. We climbed back down the ladder, exited the mill and jumped in our cars and drove off. And for the piece that he never finished, well that’s to be continued…
